The Gift of Beer
Opening Line
"Oh Sweet Mother of God."
...as uttered by me when I realized that, for my birthday, my loving wife had secured for me, not six, not twelve, but a full case of 24 bottles of New Glarus Edel-Pils.
Back on July 11th, some may remember I posted the following:
While others may argue; and their arguments are weak at best; I have the bestest wife in the Universe that has been explored to date.
It is obvious that my wife's position is secured and likely stretches beyond the known Universe.
For the uninitiated, the Edel-Pils is one of my favorite beers and to my dismay, I thought New Glarus had discontinued brewing it. Apparently they only brew it three months out of the year (May, June and July), but regardless, I was wrong - and delightfully so.
A herculean effort went into securing this case of Edel-Pils and getting it to Houston. Hence, additional shots of love must go out to my father (Mr. Dykas to you), my Aunt Janet (up in East Troy, WI) and Jaclyn's boss Vince and his wife Kathleen (the shipping end of the equation and who also bestowed a six-pack of Saint Arnold Elissa on my already tipsy self). I am surely not worthy, but overjoyed just the same.
iPhone
I also got (am getting) an iPhone. But who cares.
Dinner is Served
For dinner, Jaclyn, my Dad, and yours truly went to Killen's in Pearland, the best steakhouse I have ever been to and one of my favorite restaurants. In previous visits I have tried their dry-aged beef and their Kobe beef; both having been succulent and flavorful. Therefore, on this visit I went with a wet-aged porterhouse. Oh me, oh my - words escaped me. Good thing, because my mouth was always full!
For dessert, I took a chance on a slice of white chocolate cheesecake. Happy Birthday to me - it was phenomenal. I still like their plain cheesecake the best, but I am more than OK changing it up now and again with the white chocolate version.
Ribs and Beer
My Dad presented me with two half racks of ribs before we had dinner and I had to pause, wondering if I should just eat the ribs and forego the steak. But, since we were already at Killen's and I had no desire to share... The ribs will be paired nicely with a bottle of Edel-Pils - you betcha!
