Beer Versus Beer
Semi Coherent Blogging on a (late) Saturday evening...
A small, but good turnout for Beer Versus Beer. Before I get to the details, I am sure more people care about the results, so here we go:
- Saint Arnold Lawnmower versus Pyramid Curve Ball: The first and also the closest battle of the evening. The hometown Saint Arnold taking honors in this battle, but barely.
- Anchor Porter versus Sierra Nevada Porter: Sierra may have been a victim of cold temperatures as Anchor dropped into the winners column here.
- Avery Old Jubilation versus Saint Arnold Christmas. Christmas cheer ran strong as Saint Arnold swept the voting.
- Bonus Battle #1: Thanks to John an impromptu battle of Sam Adams Black Lager versus Rahr Ugly Pug. This was a mismatch from the word go as Sam Adams put the spank on Rahr.
- Bonus Battle #2: Also courtesy of John - Dogfish 60 Minute versus Lagunitas IPA. In an upset, Dogfish takes the honors. I say upset because Lagunitas took first place at an IPA tasting I had a year or so ago. Times change my friends; times change.
As expected, a small but intimate crowd was on hand. It was nice seeing some folks that I had only seen in a running venue before such as Holden and Cassie. Speaking of Cassie, I must let her know that I approve of Manny, her fiance. But only for the moment... Also, I think this may be the first time I have seen Holden in street clothes. He makes us all look bad!
I also got a good look at Stacy and Kellie. Two babes from the past (meaning my old work place). Both still looking fine by the way.
Before I go any further, I must give massive props to my fabulous Beer Wenches: Jaclyn, Carolyn and Kim. They did an outstanding job and my only fear is that the whole wenching thing came naturally to each of them. On the other hand, lucky for me, I get to go home with one of them - woo hoo!
John and I did a bunch of random tasting this evening and I am surprised we are still both standing. Also, another friend of Jaclyn's, Vince, whom I was led to believe was only a wheat beer kind of guy, was all over the board as far as beer styles go. And happily so. Beer Wench Carolyn was introduced to several new beers and some are still hanging with her as I type!
A good event to be sure. Although Brian (Primary) Allen could not make it, Bryan(Secondary) and Jeff made it by. Regardless of who your friends are, the ones that make it always make the gathering better even though the ones that can't make it are missed.
And I think I will leave it at that.

Kudos to the Jamooshes. I had an excellent time! I wish I could have stayed longer as I was having one heck of a time. This battle of the beer is a great idea. Thanks for the invite!

I still have bitter-beer aftertaste. Is that normal? And, I had no idea some beer could be so dark that you can't even shine a light through it, or that there is such a thing as a "sipping beer." Now I know. I'm glad to have increased my knowledge about the vast world of beer!
I had a FABULOUS time at Beer vs Beer, and I was glad to meet new friends. Beer wenching is quite fun! Already looking forward to the next gig.
